Common questions

Do I need a referral?

If you are using health insurance, your insurer will usually ask for a GP referral and will need to authorise your appointment in advance. If you are paying for yourself, my secretaries can advise on what is needed when you book.

What should I bring to my first appointment?

Any previous test results or clinic letters, a list of your current medicines, and your insurer’s authorisation number if you have one.

Can I have a video or telephone consultation?

Yes. Video and telephone consultations are available alongside face-to-face appointments. An examination or test may still mean a visit in person.

Will I need an endoscopy?

Not necessarily. It depends on your symptoms and what we need to rule out. If I recommend one I will explain why and what it involves, and if not, why it is safe to manage things without.

Will my GP be kept informed?

Yes. After each appointment I write a letter summarising the discussion and plan, which is sent to you and shared with your GP.
